Building a bridge between Chinese National Standards and AOAC International Standards

2023 AOAC China Conference Successfully Held in Changzhou, China

The Food Safety Analytical Science and Standards Conference hosted by AOAC China was successfully held on May 9, 2023 in Changzhou, China.

The conference focused on topics including dialogue and cooperation between China and international standards developing organizations, comparison of China and foreign reference material development and application, discussion of veterinary drug standards in food and new technologies for cutting-edge analysis, analysis of food packaging and environmental hazards, research on food authenticity and microbiological technology, research on testing methods for dairy products and foods for special medical products, comparison of China and international analytical standards, progress of rapid testing technology for food and agricultural products, quality assurance for dietary ingredients and dietary supplements. In addition, an expert review meeting of AOAC vanillin standard (SMPR) was also held.

More than 300 attendees from different organizations participated in this meeting. The participants consist of experts from institutes of the State Administration for Market Regulation, the Ministry of Agriculture, the scientific research institutions of the National Health Commission, the China Certification and Accreditation Association, the China National Center for Food Safety Risk Assessment, enterprises, and industries, as well as experts from international organizations such as ISO/IDF and AOAC, and standard drafters.

In October 2021, the State Council issued the "National Standardization Development Outline", and in June 2022, 16 Ministries and Commissions of the State Council jointly issued the "National Standardization Development Outline Implementation Opinions": promote the compatibility of Chinese standards with the international standard system; drive the development of domestic and international standardization synergy.

Under the framework of national laws and regulations, AOAC China carries out research on the harmonization of Chinese standards and international standards, absorbs and introduces advanced international standards; carries out the transformation of Chinese standards into international standards; assists relevant technical bodies and researchers to participate in the formulation and revision of international standards, and builds a bridge between Chinese standards and AOAC standards.
